June 2023 — Melaka, Malaysia — Sheng Tai International has officially announced the launch of the Karl Lagerfeld Tower at The Sail, introducing Southeast Asia’s first Karl Lagerfeld–branded hotel and residential development. This landmark collaboration between Sheng Tai International and the iconic global fashion house marks a major step in shaping Melaka’s future as a thriving destination for fashion, lifestyle, and international investment.
The partnership was officially revealed in the presence of YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka, and Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld, alongside Dato’ Leong Sir Ley, Founder and Chairperson of Sheng Tai International.
The announcement event took place at the acclaimed Encore Melaka Theatre within the City of Hope, the 166-acre masterplan anchored by The Sail. The evening featured immersive performances and visual showcases, reflecting Melaka’s heritage and future, and culminating in a celebration of this significant milestone.
A Landmark for Fashion, Hospitality, and Design
Set within The Sail’s dedicated Fashion Tower, the Karl Lagerfeld Tower will feature branded residences and Malaysia’s first Karl Lagerfeld Hotel. With an expected completion date of 2030, the tower will serve as the fashion and lifestyle hub among the nine interconnected towers of The Sail.
This partnership brings together Karl Lagerfeld’s global design ethos with Sheng Tai International’s vision of transforming Melaka into a hub of culture, wellness, art, fashion, and technology.
“The Karl Lagerfeld Tower at The Sail Melaka is not just a fashion project, it is a clear part of Karl’s vision and legacy of embracing the present and, at the same time, to invent the future.” said Pier Paolo Righi.
Dato’ Leong Sir Ley added: “Making Melaka a centre for fashion, while leveraging the city’s uniquely rich heritage and culture, is our vision. Our long-term goal is to not only nurture local talent but also welcome global investments, creating a wave of opportunity and prosperity in the country.”
Strengthening Melaka’s Position on the Global Stage
The Karl Lagerfeld Tower forms part of the broader City of Hope vision — a future-forward destination designed to integrate fashion, artificial intelligence, wellness, arts, cultural experiences, and hospitality.
With Sheng Tai International’s acquisition and leadership role within Yong Tai Berhad, the combined landbank reinforces the long-term development potential of the City of Hope and The Sail.
The announcement event, attended by government officials, industry leaders, investors, and international guests, concluded with a series of performances, from traditional Gamelan to contemporary musical acts, symbolising the harmony between heritage and innovation.
The event closed with a striking fireworks display illuminating the Melaka waterfront, marking the beginning of a landmark partnership that will redefine luxury living in the region.
